Caraway Bold is a new TrueType font that is distinctive, scalable, and a pleasure to read. It is a sans-serif calligraphic face, the sort of thing a calligrapher might do for an informal, print writing. It is best set at 18pt or above, useful for headlines, greeting cards, and other places a display face would be appropriate. It is completely original work, desgined and rendered in PostScript, and then converted to TrueType, by Peter Jensen.
This is the first TrueType release of Caraway Bold. It is given the version number 2.0 to reflect the extensive changes made in its Type 1 parent. For example, the metrics, which featured the very tight character spacing and kerning that are currently in style for large headline displays, have now been relaxed, which I feel will be more useful, and provide a better balance of black and white on the page. There are a large number of kerning pairs, ensuring even spacing between all character combinations. Many characters have been "tweaked", and there are no longer any overlapping paths or other anomalies to prevent proper printing on non-PostScript printers.
Caraway Bold is being released as SHAREWARE. This allows users to try the font out to see whether it is worth paying for. Marketing and distribution costs are eliminated, and the users interact directly with the Author (me!), allowing for extremely low prices for what can be commercial quality work. If you beleive, like I and many others, that Caraway Bold is of commercial quality, and will make a great addition to your font collection, please send in your shareware fee. You will only pay once for Caraway Bold: all future upgrades will be free of charge. And, you'll be supporting the shareware system, which allows budding typographers like myself to market their wares and receive helpful feedback directly from thousands of users worldwide.
The shareware fee for Caraway Bold is $10. Please make out a check or money order payable in US funds and send it to the address below. Those using the font for commercial purposes are requested to purchase the full character set, described below. Those of you who have sent in their shareware fees for earlier versions are of course exempted from any upgrade charge. :)
Caraway Bold was intended to be joined by a companion font, Caraway Book. This font was to be light enough to be used as a text face, something that works well at 10 and 12 point. The response from users (i.e. shareware payments) for Caraway Bold has not yet been great enough to justify the hundreds of hours work that will go into Caraway Book's produtcion. I hope that the numerous fixes and improvments in Caraway Bold 2.0 will merit a favorable response from users, and thus lead to the creation of Caraway Book. If there are any remaining problems with Caraway Bold, please write me and I will try to fix them immediately.
